A license is always required when working as a cosmetologist in New Jersey. The Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling issues licenses to barbers, cosmetology-hairstylists and beauticians. The difference between the latter two is that a cosmetologist has more training and can offer more services. A license from another states or country may be transferred it meets New Jersey requirements. Continuing education is not required for license renewal.
